Error on startup: No Action for debug-window-toolbar

When I start DbVisualizer Free 8.0.8, I get the above mentioned error message. I only can close the application. Just yesterday, the version was working fine and now without changing anything, DbVis doesn't work any more.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Hi,

We have one other customer with this exact problem, but so far we have been unable to reproduce it. Both of you use Java version 1.6.0_32-ea. I am unable to find this version online. Where did you get it from?

You say that DbVisualizer worked just fine earlier. Did you upgrade any other software, e.g. Java, in between it working and not?

Hello Hans,

hmm now as you're asking about the Java version.. I downloaded a new Java version and extracted it... but obviously it didn't just extract the version, but also updated/registered it on my machine..

I updated the dbvisgui.bat file, so it doesn't use "java" as command, but
set JAVA_EXEC="C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_29\bin\java"
and now it works. Setting it back to
set JAVA_EXEC=java
makes it crash again.

I downloaded this Java version at http://jdk6.java.net/download.html

Final question: is there a possibility to update the dbvis.exe (not the dbvisgui.bat) so it uses the JDK 1.6.0_29? Windows is behaving really clumsy when I want to reset the path of the java.exe...

Quick update: I was able to uninstall JRE 6.0_32ea .. it seems that 'ea' stands for early adopters and is unstable. Now I installed JRE 6.0_31, and now also the dbvis.exe works fine.

I consider this thread closed.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for telling us that it works with a later Java version. See this FAQ for how to change which Java version DbVisualizer uses:

Hi,

well in fact it's a previous, not a later Java version. Initially, I've installed the very latest version (6.0_32ea), which seems to be not finished. Java 6.0_31 is the previous, stable version and this one works fine with DbVis.

But the procedure to change the Java version remains the same.
