CENTRAL CONFIGURATION

Standardise DbVisualizer without losing flexibility

DbVisualizer is installed inside your environment and can be configured for the way your organisation works. IT can define organisation wide policies and defaults while teams continue to use the database features they need.

Central configuration can cover application behaviour, memory and Java settings, database profiles, network access, telemetry, AI availability and online services. Some settings can be enforced while others remain user configurable defaults.

ORGANISATION POLICY

resources/dbvis-custom.prefs
Policy and defaults for every user of the installation.

JAVA AND MEMORY

dbvis.vmoptions
Central JVM, memory and Java system properties.

DATABASE PROFILES

resources/profiles/
Custom database profiles available to every user.

ROLLOUT AND CONFIGURATION

Deploy the way your IT team works

DbVisualizer fits into existing software distribution and workstation management. The bundled Java runtime gives teams a predictable default while organisations that require another runtime can point the installation to their own.

Install at scale

Use silent scripted installation with a response file on Windows, macOS and Linux. Install for the current user or every user of the machine.

Set runtime policy centrally

Define JVM memory and Java system properties for the installation. The bundled runtime is recommended, with support for an organisation supplied runtime when required.

Prepare new workspaces

Export connections, drivers and preferences as a settings package so new users can begin with an approved setup.

SECURITY AND RESTRICTED NETWORKS

Keep database work inside your boundaries

DbVisualizer can operate in tightly controlled networks and without internet access once the required database drivers are available.

Operate in restricted networks

Internal driver repositories
Use your own Maven repository or shared folder instead of public repositories.

Prepared offline installations
Download drivers once and distribute them to users with no network access.

Corporate network support
Configure proxies and trust your organisation certificate authority through a central certificate store.

Control credentials and online services

Encrypted credential storage
Saved database, SSH and proxy passwords are encrypted and administrators can require a master password.

Central service controls
Turn off usage statistics, error reporting, update checks, AI and online sign in for the organisation.

Local license verification
License files are signed and verified locally without an online activation step.

LOCAL BY DESIGN

Database traffic stays between DbVisualizer and your databases

DbVisualizer connects directly to your databases, keeping queries and results within your environment. No intermediary servers or cloud services required.

TEAM SETUP AND ACCESS

Give every team a consistent database workspace

Connections, SQL scripts and database behaviour can be standardised across teams without forcing everyone into identical credentials or local preferences.

Shared connections

Keep connection definitions in a shared folder so teams receive the same connections and updates while each user keeps private credentials.

Version control with Git

Clone repositories, review changes and publish shared connections and SQL scripts directly from DbVisualizer.

Database profiles

Tailor navigation, views and actions for supported databases or add support for an internal database through its JDBC driver.

AUDIT, ACCESS AND AUTOMATION

Add guardrails without slowing teams down

Central audit logging

Record executed SQL and optionally metadata calls and connection changes. Administrators choose what is logged, where logs are stored and how long they are retained. Passwords and tokens are masked.

Approval rules by environment

Mark connections as Development, Test or Production and decide which SQL statements, data edits or connections are allowed, denied or require confirmation.

Enterprise identity

Use the authentication methods supported by each database driver, including Microsoft Entra ID, AWS IAM, IAM Identity Center, Okta, Kerberos, OAuth and managed identity.

Command line automation

Run SQL and script files without the user interface, create connections during provisioning and use DbVisualizer in scheduled jobs and CI pipelines.

AI GOVERNANCE

Decide how AI can be used

The AI Assistant is opt-in and administrators can disable it for the entire organisation. Separate approval rules can be applied to AI-generated SQL, and administrators can control which database context is shared and which model users can select.

ENTERPRISE LICENSING

Simple licensing for managed rollouts

Use individual license keys or place one organisation-wide key in the installation so every user is licensed. License files are verified locally and require no online activation step.

COMING

More user and license control

We are developing required application login, automatic license delivery, user management and usage visibility in the customer portal, operating system credential unlock, and organisation-managed AI providers.

Capabilities in development may change before release.
